I'm 6'5" and 300 lbs, and needed a patio chair that was comfortable, durable, and looked great. This chair fits the bill, easily.
I got it in tangerine, and my wife and I both love the looks and the color of the chair.
Assembly was straightforward, and took about 20 minutes. I used my cordless drill with a hex bit to drive all the bolts and screws, which helped save my wrists and made the process go faster.
The materials are top-notch. All the assembly hardware is stainless steel, and the chair boards are made from Polywood, which is a synthetic material made from 90% post-consumer recycled HDPE (high density polyethylene). The color goes through the entire thickness of the material, so scuffs and scratches won't show as discolorations and will hardly be noticeable.
The chair is *very* comfortable. Note that this particular Adirondack chair has a slightly concave backrest, as opposed to some of the other Polywood Adirondacks that have flat backs. I find that the concave backrest is more comfortable, because it doesn't put all the pressure on the spine.
Also, the synthetic wood has some give to it, so the seat, arms, and back flex and give under weight, so it's not like sitting on something hard and unforgiving. Also, the chair is heavy enough such that gusting winds won't move it, but light enough that I can easily carry it to the optimal location for various deck and backyard activities.
On top of all of that, the Polywood line of outdoor furniture includes dozens and dozens of different types of chairs, tables, etc, all in the same color palettes, so this will be the first of many Polywood outdoor pieces for us. Their large selection and consistent styling and colors will allow us to grow our outdoor furniture over time, but still have it look like a coordinated set.
Put that all together, and this was an excellent purchase. I had been eyeing the Polywood line for several months, but had hesitated because of the price. However, the fit, finish, quality, and durability of these products make it well worth the costs, for us. Highly recommended.
UPDATE - we bought our second chair of the same kind (Adirondack, tangerine), and this one came with an additional piece of paper inserted, which I have scanned and uploaded as an image for this product. If you review the notes on that image you'll see that this insert provides four steps for protecting your chair against fading in the sun, including using covers, using cushions, storing the furniture when not in use, and using UV protectants. This runs counter to my impressions of the durability of this product represented in the product description, and I wanted to let other potential purchasers know about this disclaimer/additional information. I'm not dinging the chair with a lower rating yet, but my plan is to leave these chairs out year round, unprotected. If they start to fade or break down in the sun, I'll come back here and adjust accordingly. Note that I live in south central Texas, where the sun beats down like an anvil, so we'll be a good test case.
Also note that we found that if we sat perched on the front-left or front-right edge of the chair (like leaning over to play with/corral a toddler), the pressure would cause the leg to flex outward slightly, creating a 1/16 to 1/8 inch gap between the top side edge of the seat and the leg. This gap would then close on our skin when we sat fully back, causing a nasty pinch. I solved it by using four 1.25" stainless screws (two on each side) to attach the side legs to the edges of the top front seat board. I posted a picture of the repair as part of the photo gallery of this item, to show what it looks like.
UPDATE 2: Our oldest chair of this type is now six years old, and they are all still going strong. Once or twice a year I blast them with a pressure washer, and they keep looking great. We also now have an 8 month old Rottweiler puppy who decided one day to gnaw on the armests of all four chairs, leaving some ugly, snaggly areas. I got out the orbital sander and took the rough spots right out.
I added a new picture that shows the left armrest after sanding, if you look closely you can see the 'repaired' areas and even some remaining deep tooth marks, but there are no rough edges to snag on and it's not really noticeable if you don't know to look for it.
I performed a bit of research on all the types of chairs available and traveled to many outdoor stores. I was hesitant at first to spend the money on this chair because I am a bit of a traditionalist and like a natural wood chair. However, these chairs are to be in Cape Cod on the beach of a lake for almost the entire year. I could not see spending the maintenance every spring to sand, oil or paint the chair. Furthermore, most wood chairs will shrink, warp or splinter and I did not want to deal with removing a splinter from a 4 yr old - believe me - it ain't fun... There are several models of folding ones, but those have a lower sitting point, others have a very low or straight back, both are not good for older folks who have either leg or back problems. These chairs took literately 25 min to assemble - very easy and proved to be very comfortable for all - including my father who is over 200lbs/6'. The material doesn't get hot, is very sturdy, cleans and looks great. Well worth the expense if you plan on keeping these for a long time.
We were prepared to rave about these chairs (we bought two adult plus one child's chair). Everyone gave them great reviews for good reason. They are wonderful chairs. They arrived promptly and were easy to assemble. We love the sunset red color and quality of these chairs. They are very solid and well built. I will not give them five stars, however, due to a significant oversight in the design height of the back portion of the chair. For a $400+ chair, an average sized adult should be able to fully rest his head on the top of the chair without his head extending well above the top. I am 6 feet tall and have this problem. Had Polywood simply added 2-3 inches to the back it would have solved this problem. I could have purchased a Wynward or Seaside Casual MGP chair or milk bottle recycled chair for the same price and not had this issue. If it was not such a hassle to disassemble these chairs and ship them back to Amazon or Polywood I might have exchanged them. Even my wife who is 5'6" noticed the problem when she sits in this chair. I hope Polywood sees this and fixes this problem in the future. Not something you expect to experience from such an expensive chair.
The first one I got was red. The second in Teak. I'm 6'6" and stocky, and the chair is sturdy and comfortable for me. These chairs were easy to put together for one person, but I would recommend a good medium sized vise grip to hold the one side , while using the provided tool on the other end. It took me about 20 minutes per chair to put together by myself. I have other Polywood pieces , in other colors, and would recommend them for others! The tangerine color is a pure orange sherbet color , compared to the brownish orange in the Amazon photo. It is still very nice and matches the saturation color of the red. Highly recommended. I covered them for the winter to protect them.
We replaced 4 old, inexpensive wooden Adirondack chairs with these. The 4 chairs took about 2 hours to put together (the first one longer than the last), not accounting for user error they went together fine. They are comfortable (we took other reviews into consideration and bought the curved back model). The plastic arms are more slippery than the old wooden chair arms; not a big issue.

Even better than I expected! I read so many reviews of so many Adirondack chairs before I finally settled upon this product. I live in Florida so my primary concern was durability but yet still be comfortable and still look good.... These chairs fit the bill perfectly. We go them about 2 months ago and they have been rained on a lot and still look brand new. The green color looks exactly as it does online and has not faded yet. My husband put them together quite easily. Everyone who has sat in them so far say they are comfortable; us, my older parents, my children, my friends. They are very sturdy but still light weight enough to drag around (too heavy for me to lift but I am sure stronger person could). We always fight over who gets to sit in them so I just now put in an order for TWO more! SO worth the price!!
Quality seem to be very good with the chairs. Packaging was very good, but I have to say that these were a breeze to assemble. Super clear instructions, well thought out hardware and almost everything you needed was provided. The provided wrench was not the sub-standard one time use type you usually receive with RTA furniture, it was a real tool with a comfortable handle. So happy with these chairs I'm ordering two more with side tables.
Needed 2 adirondack chairs for our fire pit area. Several years ago we bought a polywood rocker and it was a great purchase - very sturdy, easy to clean (and it's white) and still looks great. Same with these chairs! My husband assembled them both with no problem. They are comfortable and sturdy. We ordered the deep gray color and it looks perfect beside the 2 chairs we already had. When our wood chairs fall apart I'm sure we'll order from Polywood again.
Highly recommended with a 5-star rating. I purchase 8 of the chairs and couldn’t be happier with them. They came in a box that wasn’t to heavy to move by one person. 9 pieces to assembly with high quality stainless screws bolt, washers and nuts, a few extra washers and nuts included. The first one took 10 to 12 minutes to assemble and the others 6 to 8 minutes. Very comfortable and heavy enough not to blow away in a strong storm. Good looking and worth every penny.
Great looking chairs and they feel just right for relaxing on the deck fishing!
