Several years ago, I owned a skychair, the well-constructed hammock chair that this less expensive version is based on. The skychair was easier to assemble than this less expensive chair (which had no instructions) made in china. The steps are relatively easy tho: pillow side of the chair faces up. Largest wood dowel is on top, from left to right. Two mid-sized dowels are on each side from back to front. Smallest dowel is for foot stool, left to right. You can use a slip knot in the top (and a few square knots) to attach the S-hook.
If you assemble it properly, there is a good chance that the wooden dowels will slip out occasionally. When this happens, you're likely to get dumped unto the ground. HOWEVER, This can be easily prevented by adding the assembly step described below and shown in the photo.
Here's the most important tip: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS BEING A 5-STAR CHAIR AND A 1-STAR CHAIR IS .10 CENTS WORTH OF DRYWALL SCREWS. AFTER YOU INSERT EACH DOWEL INTO THE ROPE/HOLDER, ADD A 1-INCH DRYWALL SCREW IN THE END. THIS PREVENTS ALL OF THE 'SLIPPED DOWEL INCIDENTS DESCRIBED BELOW.
If you assemble it as described above, tie a good knot, and add a drywall screw in the end of each dowel, this chair is awesome. My wife rates it higher than the sky chair we owned because the skychair unravelled in the bottom of the seat within the first year of use. My daughter still refers to it as 'that chair with the hole in the butt.'
I have two of these chairs on the houseboat where I live. I love them inside and outside onto different hooks depending on the weather. Very sturdy.
I purchased this (along with the floor base) for my daughter with special needs (Rett Syndrome). She can't walk very well and spent most of her time sitting on the couch. We looked at special needs swings for her, but they were so pricey and we weren't sure how we could install them safely inside our home. This was suggested to me by my daughter's teacher and since it was so affordable, we decided to give it a try! So happy we did...she LOVES this swing!
I only gave it four stars instead of five because my husband had to make some modifications to this to make it usable. For one, he screwed the side attachments into top wooden dowel. They attach on with a canvas cap and every time we tested it, they kept slipping/falling off (because they were too big). We decided not to attach/use the foot rest because it hangs right in front of the seat and made it cumbersome to get my daughter in and out of the swing. Finally, the triangular ropes at the top that attach the swing to the base were very long, which caused the user to be very close to the floor while sitting in it. So, we shortened these a bit to reach the desired sitting height.
Overall, this has been a wonderful addition to our home and has provided hours of delight for my daughter. We use it mostly indoors, but it certainly seems durable enough to withstand outdoor use.
We have now purchased four of these. I rate them 5 stars because of the price. Ours hang from our pergola, and are therefore exposed to extreme heat, sun, and rain. Due to that, they last about 2 years before the canvas will rip. However it's a $30 chair people...I wouldn't expect them to last forever! They are however, the most comfortable hammock chairs we have tried, and they get constant use all spring, summer, and fall.
Put the chair up in my pergola, very comfortable. Fell asleep in the chair on first use. So far my only complaint is tha the material doesn't breathe, back gets sweaty, may try with a beach towel after this blast of winter weather.
Although instructions were not in the box, I just went back to the photo here on Amazon and assembled it. It is not for leaving out in direct sun and weather, but does well on my back patio that has a roof and wall. My estimate on it's weight capacity is at most 175 lbs. I have pillows to prop my head and back into THE MOST COMFORTABLE CHAIR i HAVE OWNED BESIDES ONE MY MOM HAD ( WHICH WAS AN ARM CHAIR) FROM THE 1970-72 ERA.

Some of our items are handcrafted and/or hand finished. These things are great, very comfortable, but should be replaced yearly if left outside. The material degrades when continuously exposed to sunlight. This was not unexpected though, and for the price yearly replacement isn't really a hardship.
Amazing product for such a low price. I bought 2 sets to hang on my pergola's beams. I kids love it. The foot test could be used as a small swing for young kids as well
The quality is not top-shelf but does seem to be durable. There are no instructions but most will be able figure it out. I do endorse what others recommend: add a screw (Sheetrock or deck screw1"-1.25" long) at the ends of the longer wood pieces to keep the rope sleeves in place. I installed mine under my deck and love it. I also treated the canvas with Kiwi Camp Dry fabric protector to protect from stains and mildew.
We love these swings as fantastic way to sit back and relax. Easy to swing your self and twist around in circles. We hang ours on 500 lb parachute cord side by side and don't have any problems. I would recommend taking them down for the fall/winter months or they will get fungus and dirt and leaves in them. you can wash these in a front load washer without the wooden sticks to get dirt off at the end of the season. They typically last two-three years. Very sturdy and well made.
Quality is good but there are issues. Canvas fabric has held up pretty good, although they are used on a covered (not enclosed) porch. The wood arms had problems from the start. There were large knots or spots that looked patched on the wood that have now started to look unsafe. The swings come in for the winter and stay in the sun for half of the day during the Spring to Summer months. The canvas that sits under your thighs has just begun to fray a bit, but overall the chairs are still in decent shape with some fading that was to be expected BUT better than expected.
